How to get from Dubrovnik to Korcula is a question very often asked in emails and the travel forum. The reason for this is because Dubrovnik is a popular place to visit and Dubrovnik Airport is the nearest to the Island, so people usually fly to Dubrovnik, spend few days there then go to visit Korcula.
The first option is to take a ferry from Dubrovnik to Korcula. The trouble is that ferries to Korcula from Dubrovnik are not sailing all year round. At the present they are operating April to October only – see timetable here). They are not very frequent either – at the present, there are 3 daily ferries in peak season June to September, so this option is not always possible.
The alternative is to take a bus that drives along the coast from Dubrovnik to Orebic and crosses to Korcula island from there. These are in operation every day all year round, so they are a much more reliable means of transport than ferries. You can book your bus ticket here.
The third option is to get Dubrovnik to Korcula bus shuttle that also picks up people from Dubrovnik airport. The shuttle is in operation from April to October.
All these options are great ways of travelling especially as the weather is usually very nice. There are some excellent views of the islands, bays and vineyards as you travel along the coast and along Peljesac Peninsula. All necessary info, timetables and maps about both ways to get to Korcula from Dubrovnik are on How to get to Korcula page
There are no car ferries from Dubrovnik to Korcula. They used to be a few years ago but were discontinued since, with no intention to be reintroduced. So, you have to drive along the coast to reach the island.
Driving from Dubrovnik to Korcula is easy. It only takes about 2 hrs. The roads are good, the views are beautiful and the journey can be very enjoyable.
The driving route from Dubrovnik to the island is first along the coast on road D8 to 20231, Zaton Doli, the crossroads with Peljesac (GPS coordinates:42.832152, 17.749765) where you will turn left to D 414 road that leads along the Peljesac to Orebic (altogether 121 km). From there take car ferry (15 min crossing) to Korcula island (Domince port). Car ferries from Orebic to Korcula are very frequent so you will have no trouble finding one that suits your travel plan.
To add to the trouble there is nowhere to leave the car in Orebic either as parking there is pretty chaotic too. Update: There is a parking lot in Orebic very close to the ferry terminal and centre of the town.
Bearing all of this in mind, my suggestion to you is to use public transport whenever possible.
You also have the option to be driven from Dubrovnik to Korcula. This option includes possible car rental, taxi or minibus transfer. If you need any of these, just get in touch we can pre-arrange it for you.
