Getting from Vis island to Korcula includes several options – you can get there by car ferry, fast passenger direct ferry, taxi, Uber, water taxi, and/or private transfer. The road distance from Vis Island to Korcula is about 265 km while the nearest distance across the sea is about 49 km (24 NM). There are no trains nor direct flights between Vis and Korcula island.
How to get from Vis to Korcula is a question that is frequently asked by people who fly to Split Airport and would like to visit the Islands of Vis, Hvar, and Korcula Island as well as Dubrovnik, from where they usually fly back home.
As Vis Island is at a fair distance from Korcula Island, it seems reasonable to assume it will be easy and fast to reach Korcula from Vis by ferry. Unfortunately, it is currently not as straightforward as it appears, because there are no direct ferries from Vis Island to Korcula.
Here are all available options to reach Korcula from Vis:
The only car ferry that sails to Korcula island is the one that goes to Vela Luka from Split and the one that goes from Orebic to Korcula. There are no car ferries from Vis to Korcula.
If you are traveling by car, you can take:
Both routes are good, but which one to choose depends on where exactly you are staying on the island – sometimes, it is easier to go via Split and Vela Luka, although it is a longer and more expensive route.
If you decide to drive option 2, cross by ferry to Split and drive towards Orebic, using either Ploce to Trpanj car ferry (which will shorten your driving time) or cross via Peljesac Bridge at Komarna. Once at Peljesac, drive further to Orebic to cross to the island from Orebic ferry port – see the detailed route on the below map.
There are several very pleasant other options to consider:
Update: For the period of July & August, there is now a daily ferry that goes to/from Vis from Hvar. Current timings are: depart Vis at 16:25, arrive at Hvar at 17:05 & depart Hvar at 17:55 arrive at Korcula at 19:00.
Important to note – Fast passenger ferries (catamarans) usually do not sail in bad weather. If that happens, take instead the slow car ferry from Vis to Split and from there another slow car ferry to Vela Luka. For route Korcula to Vis, use the same route template as above. The best is to get onto the early morning ferry from Korcula that departs at 6 am and proceed either to Hvar or Split (depending on the season) and change there for another ferry to Vis. If you are crossing by car, get on the early morning car ferry from Vela Luka to Split and change for the early afternoon car ferry to Vis. Book a car place in advance at Jadrolinija.
There is an Uber service from Vis to Korcula. The quoted price is about 116 euros (see the below screenshot). You can also get or pre-order a taxi to the island. You can also get a water taxi (private speed boat transfer) to take you from Vis to the island. The price for this service is calculated on basis of the number of passengers, pick-up time, and season. The ferries and buses are in operation every day so they are reliable means of transport, comfortable and air-conditioned. If it is very very bad weather, some of the fast ferries are not in service so use instead slow car ferries, which are more capable to cope with storms and large waves.
