Getting from Vis island to Korcula includes several options – you can get there by car ferry, fast passenger direct ferry, taxi, Uber, water taxi, and/or private transfer. The road distance from Vis Island to Korcula is about 265 km while the nearest distance across the sea is about 49 km (24 NM). There are no trains nor direct flights between Vis and Korcula island.

How to get from Vis to Korcula is a question that is frequently asked by people who fly to Split Airport and would like to visit the Islands of Vis, Hvar, and Korcula Island as well as Dubrovnik, from where they usually fly back home.

As Vis Island is at a fair distance from Korcula Island, it seems reasonable to assume it will be easy and fast to reach Korcula from Vis by ferry. Unfortunately, it is currently not as straightforward as it appears, because there are no direct ferries from Vis Island to Korcula.

How to get from Vis to Korcula

• The best, cheapest and fastest way to reach Korcula island from Vis is to take a fast foot passenger ferry (catamaran) via Hvar island. You can get a fast-passenger ferry to Hvar Town and from there change to another ferry to three ports on the island: Vela Luka, Prigradica, and Korcula town. The total ticket prices start from 15 Euro. The total travel time is 2 hours + 50 minutes of waiting time. This is a foot passengers option.
• If you are driving – there is no direct car ferry from Vis to Korcula. The alternatives are a car ferry from Vis to Split and a car ferry from Split to Vela Luka or a car ferry from Orebic to Korcula.
• Other options include a ferry + bus from Split to Korcula, private transfer (Uber or taxi), or water taxi.

Here are all available options to reach Korcula from Vis:

Driving from Vis to Korcula (Car Ferry)

The only car ferry that sails to Korcula island is the one that goes to Vela Luka from Split and the one that goes from Orebic to Korcula. There are no car ferries from Vis to Korcula.

If you are traveling by car, you can take:

• option 1: a car ferry from Vis to Split and another car ferry from Split to Vela Luka. There are two daily car ferries sailing all year round. Total travel time is 5 hrs 20 minutes + at least 2 hrs waiting time. The total cost for the car and driver is about 128 euros (55+73 euros).

• option 2: The alternative is a car ferry from Vis to Split and a car ferry from Orebic to Korcula. Total travel time is 5 hrs 50 minutes. The total cost for the car and driver is about 15 euros plus the petrol expenses.

Both routes are good, but which one to choose depends on where exactly you are staying on the island – sometimes, it is easier to go via Split and Vela Luka, although it is a longer and more expensive route.

If you decide to drive option 2, cross by ferry to Split and drive towards Orebic, using either Ploce to Trpanj car ferry (which will shorten your driving time) or cross via Peljesac Bridge at Komarna. Once at Peljesac, drive further to Orebic to cross to the island from Orebic ferry port – see the detailed route on the below map.

Vis to Korcula by Passenger Ferry

There are several very pleasant other options to consider:

• option 1 –  The first option is to take a ferry from Vis to Split and then either bus or ferry from Split to Korcula. This journey lasts at least from morning to late afternoon (for detailed Split to Korcula travel options check my Getting from Split to Korcula post.)

• option 2- Another option is to adjust your travels from Vis to Korcula on Tuesdays when you can take a ferry from Vis to Hvar and then ferry from Hvar to Korcula. Once on Hvar, you can choose to spend the rest of the day there sightseeing while waiting for the afternoon ferry that sails to Korcula Town. Alternatively, you can take a bit earlier ferry from Hvar to Vela Luka and proceed by bus to Korcula Town. By choosing this option, you will have the opportunity to see the whole of Korcula island while taking 40 minutes to ride on a comfortable and air-conditioned bus across the island. It is a pity this option of travel is available on Tuesdays only as this can be a very convenient way of visiting all three islands in one day. Let’s be optimistic 🙂 and hope this will change sooner than later…

Update: For the period of July & August, there is now a daily ferry that goes to/from Vis from Hvar. Current timings are: depart Vis at 16:25, arrive at Hvar at 17:05 & depart Hvar at 17:55 arrive at Korcula at 19:00.

Important to note – Fast passenger ferries (catamarans) usually do not sail in bad weather. If that happens, take instead the slow car ferry from Vis to Split and from there another slow car ferry to Vela Luka. Korcula to Vis by Ferry & Car Ferry

For route Korcula to Vis, use the same route template as above. The best is to get onto the early morning ferry from Korcula that departs at 6 am and proceed either to Hvar or Split (depending on the season) and change there for another ferry to Vis. If you are crossing by car, get on the early morning car ferry from Vela Luka to Split and change for the early afternoon car ferry to Vis. Book a car place in advance at Jadrolinija.

by Taxi or Uber

There is an Uber service from Vis to Korcula. The quoted price is about 116 euros (see the below screenshot). You can also get or pre-order a taxi to the island. The price is calculated on basis of the number of passengers, pick-up time, and season. The standard rate quoted to me is 350 euros >>  check and book your taxi here

by Water Taxi

You can also get a water taxi (private speed boat transfer) to take you from Vis to the island. The price for this service is calculated on basis of the number of passengers, pick-up time, and season. The current standard rate quoted for a water taxi to Vela Luka is 385 Euro and to Korcula Town 550 Euro > check and book your water taxi here

Further info – Points to Consider

The ferries and buses are in operation every day so they are reliable means of transport, comfortable and air-conditioned. If it is very very bad weather, some of the fast ferries are not in service so use instead slow car ferries, which are more capable to cope with storms and large waves.
