I’ve been told that it is possible to hire a car in Sobra, but that you cannot book in advance. Is this correct

Would it be preferable to hire a car on the mainland and bring it on the ferry

It sounds weird that one can not book car in advance ( !) Which kind of company is offering that !

I would suggest you to get your car at mainland (Dubrovnik Airport or similar) and take it by ferry to Mljet.

I don’t know, it’s what the person from whom I shall be renting an apartment told me:

There is a rent a car in Sobra, but you can’t make a reservation because they don’t do that. I think there shouldn’t be problem with it.

He “thinks” there shoudn’t be problem. ๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ™„

Well, it’s up to you – if you want to make sure you have a car book it in advance. 8)

And also, BTW, make sure you rent a car from reputable company as you don’t want to end up having trouble with insurance, road tax etc.

    This is my 2 cents.

I quite agree. I thought it sounded very odd. But perhaps something was lost in translation. So I was hoping there might be someone reading this forum who knows for sure if car hire is available on Mljet, and if so, how I can book it.

I’d prefer that if possible, because I think a car would be a liability in Dubrovnik, and there’s no point paying the expense of transporting a car on the ferry unnecessarily. But if that is the only way, that’s what we shall do.

Any recommendations for car hire at Dubrovnik airport We need one that is available all hours, because we depart at 06:45 on a Saturday.

I am sure something is lost in translation too, but I am often annoyed with relaxing attitude of local people with kind-a-no-problem thing.

Your holiday is precious for you so you want to make sure everything is ok (as much as possible) so you don’t loose time organising things while on holiday.

I guess something like Easy Car ot Hertz or similar would be good idea. At least one knows the papaerwork is fine.

Yes, avoid car while in Dubrovnik, just take it on the day ( or night before)when you leave for Mljet. All the best to you ๐Ÿ™‚

Yes, definetly no cars in Dubrovnik. Try not to bring them in Korcula either.
