Stupe – Korcula Archipelago
Stupe are two small islands – Vela and Mala Stupa – among a dozen of other islands of Korcula Archipelago.
The islands feature a small pebble beach as well as several large areas of smooth rocks suitable for sunbathing. The beach on the northern coast of the island offers uninterrupted views over the Channel, Orebic and Peljesac (Sveti Ilija Summit)
The waters around the island are very very clean, transparent and have beautiful colours (see photo above) making the whole area a great swimming and snorkelling location.
The island is popular among local fishermen to pass by and stop for a drink in a small restaurant / konoba run by a local family. The restaurant is open for visitors for most of the year offering BBQ meat, fish and vegetables. Selection of good local wines is also on the offer.
The island is sunny all day long although you can always find shade on the opposite side of the sun. It is better to avoid strong sunshine so to take parasol or beach shelter is recommended. There are indeed some patches of mature pine trees and makkia on the island which can also provide welcoming shade to avoid the sun when it is strong.
Please note – If you are not experienced skipper I would not recommend you to rent a boat and go on your own to Stupe. The weather around here can be very unpredictable, changes in the weather can be rapid and sometimes even dangerous, so use safe transport to the island.

Another short video that I took last summer while visiting Stupe island for an afternoon swim and some food in its konoba/restaurant. The island is located in the near vicinity of Korcula Old Town and offers a peaceful atmosphere and is a great spot to enjoy some food and nature. If you visit Korcula, you should not miss this great little place.
