Parking Tommy in Korcula Town

The new project currently going on in Korcula Town is the construction of Parking and Business Centre “Potok”. Covering a total floor area of approximately12000 m2 over 3 levels, the Centre will have 288 parking places, a shopping center (run by Tommy d.o.o. from Split), a restaurant, and a cafe bar. The Centre, providing 40-60 new jobs, is expected to be completed and fully functional by May 2012.

The project is financed by Korcula municipality and Tommy d.o.o. from Split

Update 2022: The parking and business center is long finished and actually looks fine now ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘Œ

Update 2012 (April):

This is one of the latest photos of the construction site for the new parking and business centre in Korcula Town. The photo, taken from Orebic on Peljesac shows the construction site as it is seen from across the Channel from Korcula Old Town.

A few months ago when I wrote about this new development I was enthusiastic. However, at this stage, although the site is not yet completed, I feel a bit confused and indecisive as I must admit, it looks ugly ๐Ÿ™ My only hope now is that the whole thing will get hidden from views by some clever planting around the building which can (eventually) integrate the structure into the landscape..

Update 2012 (January):

Here are the latest photos of the construction site for the New Parking and Business Centre in Korcula Town. Back in November, when I wrote about this new thing that is going on in Korcula some readers were sceptical about the project being finished by next summer. Now, a few months later, it seems that people who are working on it are pretty serious about finishing it in time:

I believe this is another disaster! Korcula is beginning to be like another Costa del Sol. You are ruining the natural beauty of your island. The old look is beginning to be like cement look! I know that Korcula needs some parking space but not a shopping arcade. You have enough Konzum Studenanc and other small businesses in Korcula. I believe that this new shopping arcade will kill the small businesses in Korcula. You have enough cafes, restaurants which are situated in the old streets of Korcula. Yes you think you are creating 60 jobs but it will kill the magic of going to small businessess like cafes, restaurants, shopes of old streets of Korcula. You should just created parking spaces without ruining much of the country look of Korcula. What a disaster!
