Medvinjak is a bay in the near vicinity of Korcula Old Town. It got its name after a seal (morski medvjed = seal) that use to live in this bay long time ago. It takes about 15 to 20 min walk to reach Medvinjak bay from the very centre of Korcula town. This is a newly urbanised bay with a lot of nice detached houses that offer apartments for holiday rental. Medvinjak has a great views over Peljesac Peninsula and Mountain Sveti Ilija. It has it’s own small pebble beach that is used for swimming and sunbathing by locals as well as their guests. Medvinjak is a good place to windsurf too, as it is just across the water from Viganj – popular windsurfing spot. Regular bus service to Racisce connects Korcula Old Town with this suburb.
Medvinjak has a small, shingle (pebble) beach that has been recently created by local residents. On the both side of the beach, there are large jetties that has spacious flat areas where one can play with the ball, jump into the sea or just lay on towel and sunbathe. The beach is suitable for small children and families.
Due to it location facing North in not verysheltered bay the beach can bevery windy when Burais blowing. However, it is fairly sheltered fromMaestraland Siloko / Jugo wind. (see thewindrose).
