Istruga Beach

Istruga Bay and Beach near Smokvica and Brna: an unusual beach situated in the small bay on the southern side of the island of Korcula. Istruga is well known for its healing mud which covers the bottom of the bay. Another nice thing about this beach is a small sports center attached to it, where one can play tennis, table tennis or volleyball as well as enjoy swimming and sunbathing. There is a small restaurant in Istruga too, and in nearby Brna Bay (15 min walk) there are plenty of cafes and restaurants for food and refreshments. Istruga and Brna are very convenient day-trip destinations from Korcula Town.. One can do a day trip to this beach by car, scooter or even bicycle from various places around the Island. Istruga is about 35 km away from Korcula Old Town. There is a regular bus service from Korcula to Smokvica, as well as from Vela Luka, Blato and other villages on the island. The Bay of Istruga is about 500 m long and 150 m wide. In the middle of Istruga, there is a pile of curative mud which, some say, helps cure rheumatic ailments. The whole area is surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation helpful for people suffering from asthma. There is an entertainment center with tennis terrains, a dancing terrace, and a restaurant in the bay itself.
