In the 15th century two wealthy families the Ismaellis and the Gabriellis, saved Korcula from decay, helpeing to preserve buildings and churches. They also built their palaces in the old town. Throughout the centuries the palaces were rebuilt on several occasions, according to the particular architectural style of the time. Hence influences of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque style is clearly recognisable. Nowadays, the Gabriellis Palace houses the Korcula Town Museum, while the Ismaelli Palace is divided into several flats, housing local people.
