Exhibition: Watercolours by Sanda Vlasic @ Gallery of the Cultural Centre of Vela Luka, Korcula island – 10.02.2017 @ 19:00
=====================================================
Sanda Vlasic was born in 1956 and grew up in Radovljica, Slovenia. After graduating in English and German languages at the University of Ljubljana, she moved to Zagreb where she taught English and German in secondary schools. From 1994 she worked at the Australian Embassy in Vienna, and from 2000 at the Australian High Commission in London. Since 2014 she has been living in Vela Luka.
Sanda liked painting from a young age, but due to many obligations it has remained only a wish. She encountered watercolour already in elementary school and thanks to an art teacher, who himself worked in watercolour, was inspired to begin painting herself.
During her stay in London in 2004, she started a course in the basics of watercolour and thus making her wish come true. With the beginning of learning and painting in watercolour she quickly realized that the technique of watercolour is not simple and it requires a lot of learning and practice, but that the final result can provide great satisfaction. Thanks to the popularity of watercolour painting in England, she had plenty of opportunities to visit exhibitions, as well as a large selection of quality stationery, literature and courses.
In 2006 she joined a watercolour course, organised by a self-taught painter in her home, garden or neighbouring nature. She attended the courses for more than two years and has gained a lot of practical and useful advice. She could then use the knowledge gained in the courses when she was painting herself. And from then on a collection has started which you are able to see in this exhibition.
Her motives are landscapes of the areas where she lived and travelled. In addition to the landscapes, her motives are flowers from the fields and from the courtyards.
So far she took part in two local charity exhibitions in England, and in 2015 she participated in the exhibition “Love and Island” in Vela Luka.
