Korcula has a lot of small and secluded beaches all over the island, but the ‘best’ or, let’s say most popular ones, are sandy beach Przina in Lumbarda and pebble beach Pupnatska Luka. Here are some photographs and comments of Korcula popular swimming spots and more are coming soon:
KORCULA - BANJE : Town beach right in the center of Korcula Town, close to Hotel Marco Polo and local swimming and water polo club ' KPK'. This popular pebble beach is very busy in the summer time, crowded with tourists and locals. There are couple of cafes and restaurants close by, so one can have some refreshment without need to get fully dressed again. Good for children if you are based in Korcula Town.
KORCULA - Luka Korculanska : Sandy beach in the bay of Luka Korculanka, about pleasant 15 minutes walk from the Korcula Old Town or short taxi - boar ride from the main Korcula harbor. Beach is crowded with families with small children who spend hours playing and paddling in shallow water. There are a couple of open-air grill-bars / cafes near by, so food and refreshments are easily accessible.
KORCULA - SKOJI : 'Skoji' - local name for a group of tiny islands in Korcula archipelago, with numerous secluded beaches, a short taxi-boat ride from Korcula main harbor. If you are adventurous enough, you can rent your own boat from locals and get for day-trip in 'Skoji'. There is couple of open - air cafes/restaurants on the largest island Badija, as well as nice little restaurant on island of Stupe run buy local family who do fantastic food and cold wine ad beer.
KORCULA - SVETI NIKOLA : Nice little swimming spot, locally called 'Mandrac' (small boat marina) right next to the church and monastery of Sveti Nikola, about 5 minutes walk from the Old Town. There are couple of tiny patches with pebbles - ideal for small children, while the rest of the area is rocky with crystal clear water. Very popular spot for locals, though still undiscovered by most tourists. No local cafes, so bring your own refreshments!
LUMBARDA - VELA PRZINA: Large beach a short bus ride (15 min) from Korcula town, in the village of Lumbarda. This is a very popular sandy beach, filled with tourists and locals. Gets very crowded in summer so if you like sandy beaches hurry up to take good spot as early as possible. Located on the southern side of the island, so it faces open sea, though secluded within a large bay. There is an open-air cafe/restaurant right on the beach for simple food and refreshments.
PUPNATSKA LUKA : A beautiful pebble beach with clear water in the bay of Pupnatska Luka , some 15 km away from Korcula town. If you don't have your own car, there are few times a day bus service from Korcula to Pupnat (village nearby) which one can use to reach this popular swimming spot. Alternatively, you can rent a car, scooter or bicycle to go for a day trip in Pupnatska Luka. There are couple of restaurants in the bay for food and refreshments.
ISTRUGA - BAY near SMOKVICA: unusual beach situated in the small bay on southern side of island of Korcula. Istruga is well known for it's healing mud which covers the bottom of the bay. Another nice thing about this beach is a small sport center attached to it, where one can play tennis, table tennis or volleyball as well as enjoying swimming and sunbathing. There is a small restaurant in Istruga too, and in nearby Brna bay (15 min walk) there are plenty of cafes and restaurants for food and refreshments. Istruga and Brna are very convenient day-trip destinations from Korcula Town.
More beaches around Korcula:
Zitna Bay and Beach - ... The best thing about Zitna is the color of the sea water in the bay itself. It is a blue-and-green mixture of reflecting sunlight enhanced by clarity of the clean water. The color of the sea is a result ( as in any other bay ) of type of sea-floor that is beneath of it. Zitna's sea floor is mostly sandy so those large sandy patches ( locally called 'Bjankura' - word coming from Italian word for white = bianca) make the colors of the bay so unique...Beach Vaja near village of Racisce - Beach Vaja is a small beach with white pebbles and azure sea water. It is a picturesque and romantic place, isolated and rarely visited. It is located about 1km north of Racisce. One can reach it by tarmac road that leads from the far end of the Racisce harbour. Walking up the hill and taking the path down the cliff to the beach is the way to come to this beauty spot, where in hot summer day one can find a shade from a couple of trees branched around old Dalmatian house.
