- NEW Book on Korcula - Marco Polo's Isle
by Michael Donley - The Croatian
Adriatic – the New Riviera. Surprisingly,
this nickname is a good hundred years old; yet once
again the area has become a popular destination.
However, apart from guides and books of a political
or academic nature, nothing has appeared in English
for 25 years. Marco Polo’s Isle is thus a
timely publication. In it the author offers an in-depth
view of one particular island, but at the same time
captures the spirit of Dalmatia as a whole. read

life of Korcula. Her involvements include restoration
of Arneri
Palace in Korcula. This is an extract from the
article: " Veronica
Lady Maclean of Dunconnel, who died on Friday aged 84,
was the widow of Sir Fitzroy Maclean, Bt, on whom
Ian Fleming is said to have based James Bond, and
led a glamorous and adventurous life.... she provided
a spontaneity, a secure base and a loving support
for all their many activities and adventures together
- whether in the constituency or in the Balkans,
on their frequent travels or at the Palazzo Boschi
on the Croatian island of Korcula, which they bought
in the late 1960s as a place in which to "dry
out" after a Scottish winter.... In 1991 she
took a course in lorry-driving so that she could
drive a seven-ton truck full of urgent medical supplies
to Croatia for the people of Korcula." ... (read
