DUBROVNIK Restaurants
Dubrovnik is as tourist places, dotted with numerous restaurants and cafes. The busiest ones are located in Dubrovnik Old Town along the street called Preko, as well as along and off Siroka Ulica Street in the Old Town. Lot of restaurants get closed during winter months, off season, but despite that, there is always enough left open all year around to try and enjoy local food.
All Dubrovnik restaurants offer similar food, usual versions of local dishes, such as rizot meaning "seafood risotto", menestra aka "minestrone soup" , buzara (langoustine in a tomato sauce), pizza, grilled meat and other fish specialties. For up market versions, with formal service and nice sea views from the terrace try :
- ATLAS CLUB NAUTIKA Restaurant - Pile, Address: Brsalje 3, Phone: 385 (0)20 442 526 442 573,: " The exclusive restaurant is located in the building which used to be the Dubrovnik Nautical Academy and where the famous Dubrovnik sea captains learned their trade from 1881. The building has recently been renovated, but has retained the decor reminiscent of its rich history and the golden age of the thriving seafaring tradition of the Dubrovnik Republic."
This restaurant is located just outside Pile Gate, in the very heart of the town, conveniently located for transport to and from town.
Proto Restaurant is run under same management. Also conveniently located in Siroka Ulica, off Stradun main promenade:
- PROTO - The Old Town, Address: Široka ulica 1, Phone: 385 (0)20 323 234 " Located in the centre of the Old Town. Since 1886. Renovated in 2002. Traditionally renowned for fish specialties prepared according to the old recipes of Dubrovnik fisherman. High quality service. Rich selection of local wines. Among its guests the restaurant also boasts Edward VII, king of England, and Mrs. Simpson. For those seeking a less pricey option, restaurant PROTO in the heart of the Old city, on the corner of Siroka Street and Vara, offers equally exceptional cuisine. Fish specialties and carefully selected ingredients prepared by the best Dubrovnik chefs are served on the summer terrace under a sky of vine-leaves, as well as in the elegant interior. "
Tip : Avoid the restaurant hawkers on Prijeko Street and head straight to Sesame, a local favorite at Pile Gate. Take a seat on the terrace, start with a few oysters from Ston (Croatia’s oyster gold mine, just up the coast), and move on to grilled Adriatic squid or lobster pasta:
