House for sale in Korcula

Few days ago I was conatacted by Ivo Kalogjera who asked me to put his “house for sale” advert on my wesite.

Soon after that he sent me photos of the house and the whole thing was up and running live on this page: House for Sale in Korcula

Although that advert was prepared very quickly, I kept comming back to it , checking photos and description, etc… I cought myself thinking often about that house.

Ok, I must confess - I have no intention to buy than house.

The simple reason is than I can not afford something like that.

But I must say that whoever eventually buy this lovely place, will get one of the best houses in Old Korcula.

And more importantly - it is a rare opportunity to aquire such a lovely property, as these sort of houses don’t come on the market often.

House that is located in the very centre of the town, but somehow secluded in it’s own space with large back garden, shed and sea views, is not something that can be seen often around estate agent’s shopwindows…

Well anyway, if you happend to read this blog and are after something really good in and around Croatian coast , get in touch with Ivo Kalogjera to chat and have a look at this great family home…

Good luck with you house-hunt!

Lastovo Nature Park Proposal Discussion

Lastovo ArchipelagoAccording to Sunce Association website in December 2005, as a part of public hearing, public presentation of the proposal of the Nature Park Lastovo was held in the town of Lastovo.

Proposal was presented by representatives of the Ministry of Culture, the State Institute for Nature Protection and local municipality.

According to the proposal, area of the Nature Park Lastovo will encompass islands and islets of the Lastovo archipelago and Island of Susac including the zone of about 500 meters around the islands and islets. The total area of the proposed Nature Park will be 195.83 km2.

At the presentation, participants had an opportunity to ask questions and hear explanations related to further work of the Nature Park Lastovo. Most of the questions were related to the future developments of activities such as fisheries, agriculture, tourism and the purchase of land properties.

Although local community is aware of the necessity for the protection of the Lastovo Archipelago, some of them are concerned because the management plan of the Nature Park are not yet defined. The biggest advantage is recognized in further tourism development and restriction of fishing activities.

Furthermore, the borders of the Nature Park was discussed too with the emphasis of the value of the Lastovo archipelago in national context together with the importance for the conservation of this area.

It is expected that within next few months, Croatian government should establish management body of the Nature Park Lastovo, with it’s headoffice at the Island itself. The funds of 170 000 Euros are already secured.

We all hope this programe will continue smoothly, as this would assure conservation and protection of nature at this beautiful island.

Refurbishment of Hotel Marco Polo in Korcula

Korcula Hotel Marco Polo
Some good news are reaching out of Korcula?s local Hotel Company : Hotel Marko Polo in Korcula is currently undergoing refurbishment…

This well known Korcula hotel was first opened in June 1972 and since then was hardly improved at all.

The refurbishment of the hotel will be conducted in 2 phases, and once completed; Marco Polo Hotel will be the first and only four star hotel on the Island.

As the beginning of the tourist season in April 2006 is a pretty tight deadline, in this first phase, the improvements will be focused on hotel?s bedrooms, which will get air-conditioning and new telephone system, as well as new bathrooms and furnishings.

In second phase, which is due to start in October 2006, the revamp will be finished and new indoor and outdoor swimming pools, fitness and wellness centre will be added to existing facilities.

This is very good news for Korcula’s tourist industry, as it proves things are moving on after terrible suffering in 1990’s due to Balkan conflict.

Travel London-Zagreb-Korcula

Last week, as soon as new WizzAir cheap flights from London (Luton) to Zagreb were announced, I was looking forward for spare minute to check their booking system to see if seats are available and what prices would work out.

The main reason for me checking these flights is the fact that there is a regular, daily bus service that runs from Zagreb to Korcula and back, so my initial thought was using this cheap flights plus bus ride to travel to Korcula from Britain on budget.

For the sake of experiment, I have chosen departure from London to Zagreb on Monday, 03.07.06, returning week or 10 days later. My choice was Monday, as on Mondays, flight from Luton departs at 8am, and arrives in Zagreb at 11am, so there is a plenty of time to catch 7.30pm bus departure from Zagreb to Korcula.

All other departures from London Luton are afternoon ones, arriving at Zagreb Airport around 17.35 or even later. Arriving so late at the airport, it will be too ambitious to expect to catch the bus especially if you flight is late.

On the way back, the best option is to choose Wednesday, Friday or Sunday departures from Zagreb to Luton. You will leave Korcula day before at 7.45 pm and arrive in Zagreb following day early morning (around 6am) so you have almost all day to do sightseeing in Croatian capital.

After inputting all necessary info, total cost of flights work out as 62.05 GBP (tax included). Adding to it about 40 GBP for return bus ride to and from Korcula, total works out as 102.50 GBP. Not too bad, bearing in mind travelling this way you have two half days for sightseeing in Zagreb.

If you fancy this flight&bus route here are the facts:

Flight booking: www.wizzair.com

Bus Zagreb - Korcula: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun, departs Zagreb 19.30 arrives Korcula 6.30
Bus Korcula - Zagreb: Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat, Sun, departs Korcula 19.45 arrives Zagreb 06.00

Note: You can not buy bus ticket in advance  it is served on first-come-first serve basis. Therefore, I would recommend buying your bus ticket as soon as you arrive in Zagreb.

Good luck and if you try this route, please leave your comment here or on our Korcula Travel Forum..

Korcula Town Museum Pages

Korcula Town Museum
Couple of days ago I was browsing through my hard drive, searching for the file ( an important file - still missing bdw) that suddenly wanished from my desktop (?!)

:-( In desperation, I opened every single directory on my computer :-(

And BINGO - I didn’t find that file BUT found a folder called “pictures korcula summer 2004″ :)

WOW! I couldn’t belive it ! I thougt that folder was lost in my last disaster with unfriendly virus that my computer suffered from..

Anyway, to cut the long story short, going through the photos of that newly found folder, I discovered a whole collection of the photos that I shooted in the Korcula Town Museum couple years ago and never got around to publish it due to that virus.

So I decided to publish it now - see them on Korcula Town Musem Pages

I created couple of cathegories with photos from different sections of the museum. At this stage I am still editing entries, adding titles and descriptin of the images, so please be patient if some of the links don’t work…

Enjoy!
