As a part of continuos struggle to make Korcula more pedestrian friendly place, couple days ago, new and large flowerpots appeared at Korcula’s main square Plokata.
Flower pots are still empty without any soil or flowers.
And boy, they are ugly too
I wander, how comes that somebody can come to the idea to use these kind of pots to put them on the main square of the town that is proud of it’s stonemason heritage!? Perhaps we run out of stones?!
My only hope is that once flowers overgrown that ugly reddish/brownish edges of the pots, it might look bit better.
Or perhaps, pots can be painted white, to “blend” a bit with the surrounding.
Or, even better, we can get rid of them completely and instead, replace them with a nice stone-made pots.
Finger’s crossed, somebody in charge will realise this soon…
In the meantime, when in Korcula, just ignore them and turn your head to other side.
Good luck

On the 5th May Residents of Korcula Old Town held a protest against the town authorities, in front of Korcula?s Town Hall. They believe that the Korcula Town Authorities grant too many permissions for occupation of pavements and streets of Old Town to local restaurants (and other business owners) with their tables and chairs for ?al fresco? eating. There was also petition to sign for supporters.
Residents of Korcula Old Town would like to be involved in the decision making about how public spaces in the Old Town are used. They don?t want all public places to become rented out to restaurant and business owners as it disturbs the normal way of life in Korcula Old Town that was built 700 years ago for people to live in. Now it is made into an unberable place for anybody who is not a tourist.Children who used to play at Old Town?s streets are no longer allowed in certain spots in the town as they, whith their games, ?disturb? business.
The Old Town of Korcula is a place to live ? not only a tourist attraction. If local authorities don?t start to think about this issue, the town itself will become too difficult to live in and will slowly disintergrate into just another Disneyland.

Korcula’s town traffic authorities bring brilliant long awaited news as they abolish parking on Sv Nikola! The beautiful promenade has in recent years become tightly surrounded by an endless row of parked cars, making it difficult for both other cars and pedestrians to squeeze through what was once a relaxing walk offering sea views over Korcula Old Town.
This new ?no parking? regulation takes a step towards solving Korcula?s traffic problems; an achievement we must settle with for the time being, as we continue to hope and lobby for Sv Nikola becoming a fully pedestrian-only area
We continue to follow the developments for Korcula?s traffic solution and the final statement will be posted here.

Forteca is the English tower Fort Wellington, built in 1813 at the top of the hill above Korcula Old Town.
Due to it’s historic value, it was unreasonable to expected that a mobile phone mast and arials can be erected on top of the tower.
However, some people had a different idea and a mast and arials have been there for years.

Not so long ago, a new mast apeared on the top of the hill, so at the moment, we have two masts on the hill. Great.

All arials from the top of the Forteca Tower are allegedly beeing relocated at the newly built mast that is just a few meters away from the tower (?!)

The summit of the Forteca Hill offeres a beautifull view of the Korcula Old town, the Skoji Arhipelago and the Peljesac Peninsula. This is why we expected the local authorities to oppose the idea of keeping the Forteca Hill under the mast’s occupation and to give it back to walkers, visitors and tourists.
It is very sad to see another wong decision by the local authorities.
