Archaeological Dig in Lumbarda

dig-lumbardaThe new archaeological dig started in Lumbarda last week.

The location of excavation is in the western part of Lumbarda, in the area of Sutivan, where in 1999 there were discoveries of artefacts from the late antique period.

The archaeologists hope to find ruins of hermit’s dwelling, possibly a small hermit’s church, dated from the late antique period, which is expected to be located next to existing church of Sveti Ivan in Lumbarda.

The project, financed by Lumbarda’s local authority and Ministry of Culture of Republic of Croatia , is conducted by the archaeologists Hrvoje Potrebica, Ina Miloglav and Sanda Hancevic.
