Badija
Island Korcula

Badija (pronounced Badiya) island beaches are
just a short water taxi-boat ride from Korcula's
town main harbor. Badija has a lot of suitable swimming
spots and some pebble beaches all over the Island,
as well as couple of restaurants/ cafes that are
open in summer months, where one can have snack,
refreshment or full 3-course meal too. Badija is
ideal place to spend whole or half day out in the
nature. Badija is very popular among locals too
for weekend day-trips and picnics, so it tent to
be crowded at the weekends.
At
the southern shores of the Badija, East of the Franciscan
Monastery, there is a small pebble beach as
well as a large area of jetty and open-water swimming
pool that is suitable for swimming as well as sunbathing
or serious training in the swimming pool itself.
The area is good choice for people who like to jump
in the sea (see right photo) as sea here is very
deep and jetty is very large too and handy for jumping.
Years ago, this area used to be part of Croatia's
Sport Federation Centre, when Badija was very popular
destination for Croatian sportsman and women to
come and spend their summers. Good thing about Badija
are those large pine trees that offer shade and
comfort on hot summer's days.
On
the northern part of Badija Island, facing Orebic and Peljesac Peninsula, there is a large pebble
beach that is good for people who wants to have
some more privacy and perhaps get into topless or
naturist mood. All along that beach there is a lot
of pine trees too, so one can find a welcoming shade
on the hot day. Waters around Badija are crystal
clear as everywhere else along Korcula Archipelago.

Note : If you are adventurous enough, you
can rent your own boat from locals and get for day-trip
to Badija and other islands though we must warn
you to be very, VERY careful when sailing around
on your own, as sometimes, there are quick and unpridictable
storms that are sudden and very powerfull, which
coud be very, very dangerous. If you decide to go
for trip on your own, always keep close to the shores,
within archipelago, and don't go to the open sea...
